Shaker fun!

Hello Chapmanville Primary friends!

We have 4 days and then you are on Spring Break! If we were at school, we would be using my Easter egg shakers this week and doing lots of fun stuff with them.

So, I have a challenge for you this week!

Challenge: Make a homemade shaker with beautiful stuff from around your home!

Here are tips to help you out:

1. First, you must find a container. (Easter eggs, empty water bottle, or empty container)

2. Second, find something to put inside your shaker. (rice, beans, beads, dry food....)

3. Be creative and have fun!

4. Share your shaker with Mrs. Carroll on your class page!

5. Enjoy the following shaker videos!

**I Know  Chicken by Laurie Berkner (echo sing with her and play your shaker when she tells you too!)  I love this song!!!!

Here is one of my favorites (I will miss singing it with you guys)
Ideas: Sing along and play your shaker. You could also stand and hop with your shaker on the A part. Freeze on the B part (He's got jelly beans for Tommy.....)

The spring weather has been amazing lately! Hopefully you've been in your yard playing some!
Play your shaker with Vivaldi's music (Steady beat on the A part)

Here is a fun song to play your shaker and sing along!

Enjoy your shaker fun! Have a great week and remember to be safe! Mrs. Carroll misses all of you a bunch!!

K: Mrs. Lambert & Ms. Dempsey

For those that have PE, before you go outside and enjoy the spring weather: Enjoy this fun video that just happens to be one of  Ms. Conley's favorites.

Have a great weekend!

Next week, we will  be making homemade shakers and doing some of the shaker activities we would have done in music class before spring break!
So be looking around your house for items you could use to make a shaker.
Examples: empty bottles/containers, Easter eggs, etc.
What could you put inside?

My Family Plays Music

March is Music in our School's Month, so let's continue celebrating it even though we are home! We read a book at the beginning of the month called "Because" and I loved the discussions we had in Kindergarten.

Does your family play music? If they do, share in the comments below!

Today we have a book called "My Family Plays Music". After we read the book, I will share some other videos to go along with the different genres/styles of music and instruments we heard about.

Questions:
1. Can you name 2 family members and what they played.
2. Can you name 2 styles of music that were mentioned in the book?
3. What did the narrator (little girl) play?
4. What did her daddy say she was? Why did he say this?

At the end, they say the whole family celebrates. Right now Let’s celebrate with our family and watch this fun video!

I hope you enjoyed this lesson!

Extra activity: draw a picture of you and your family playing or making music. You could also write about what you drew.

When finished, hang it up and if possible share it with Mrs. Carroll.

Spring

Hello Chapmanville Primary friends!! The first day of spring has past so it's time for a composer drawing.

Do you remember the composer Vivaldi?

Vivaldi was an Italian composer and you probably remember from class that he wrote music for the 4 seasons.

For this lesson:
1. Listen(first time):  Pat the beat on the A section(it will return), do you hear the birds, the water in the streams thawing out after the winter, also listen for the spring thunderstorm.
2. As you listen (2nd time), draw on a piece of paper what the  music makes you think of.
3. Hang your masterpiece on the fridge! (also have your parents share with Mrs. Carroll: I'd love to see your beautiful spring artwork).

For your PE day( if weather allows), go outside and get some exercise in! Keep a log of what movement you do each day. Ms. Conley would love to see how you kept yourself moving!
Remember 60 minutes of movement a day helps keep your heart healthy!
So, get up and move!!

Stay tuned for more music and PE fun! We miss you and hope you are staying safe!

Music Madness

Good Morning Chapmanville Primary! Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Don't forget to check out the last post for a fun leprechaun lesson.

Today I want to share the results of our first grade Music Madness 2020 edition. Due to school being shut down, we only have an Elite 8 of songs!

The four styles of music for this year were rock, country, pop, and latin.

In the rock category, every 1st grade voted for "I Already Love You".  It was a 3-2 vote for the 2nd rock song. 3 classes voted for "Multiply, Multiply" because they said they liked math.  The other 2 classes voted for the song "Rockin' Out".

In the country category, every class voted for "I Wanna Go To The Country".  The 2nd song was Sunny Days, but 1 class voted for "Rocky Top".

In the Pop category, the songs "You're A Star" and "You-nique" won!

In the Latin category, the song "Miami" and "El Cascabel" won!

So the results of Quaver's 2020 Music Madness are:

Rock: I Already Love You & Multiply Multiply

Country: I Wanna Go to the Country & Sunny Days

Pop: You're A Star & You-nique

Latin: Miami & El Cascabel

Have a great day kiddos! :)

Happy Saint Patricks Day!

Hello Chapmanville Primary! Let's have some fun for Saint Patrick's Day which is tomorrow. Don't forget to wear your green.

First of all, do you know what a lullaby is? ( Discuss with your parents/guardians)

A lullaby is
a quiet, gentle song sung to send a child to sleep.

Enjoy this Irish lullaby with your family! Rock your favorite stuffed animal as you listen!

Here is a fun song about a leprechaun.
Discuss with your family:
**What do they say you may find at the end of the rainbow?
**While you listen see if you can hear 2 types of voices. We know the 4 voice types: singing, whisper, shouting, and speaking/talking. Which 2 are used in this song?
**The form of this piece is ABA- on the A part walk around your room like you are looking for a leprechaun. On the B part, freeze in your spot and say the words.

If you said, singing and speaking voice, you were correct!

For your PE day, go outside and play if it's not raining. If it's raining, do some exercises (10 jumping jacks, 10 hula, 10 arm circles, etc. ) Remember, movement if important to keep our hearts healthy!

Have a great day and keep singing!

Mrs. Carroll :)
